Blogging Project Runway just sent a dispatch from New York Fashion Week with details on the “Project Runway” Season 8 show. Like last season, they are showing collections from the top 10 designers instead of the final three, which helps throw off the finale spoilers.
To quote BPR:

I'm posting some of my favorite looks from the show. Honestly, I don't know who did what yet. I'm just going by sight. For all I know, I'm picking (shudder) Ivy's work. But I think this is Andy, just from the starburst headpiece description.
“Predictions: first, a bit of a spoiler. Earlier this week Nina Garcia mentioned on her twitter that they had narrowed down to the final three and that it ‘was one of the most emotional eliminations yet’. So we think they came in this week with a final four. There was a significant pause before they showed the final 4 collections. This may have been to ready the filming process. Although we have no certain knowledge, we think Gretchen, Mondo, April and Andy are the final four. Maybe Gretchen is the emotional elimination? Based on the quality of the collections, our consensus prediction for the win is Mondo. It will be a tough choice for the judges and we can’t wait to see how all of this goes down.”
If Mondo does win, I hope that will be enough to get him to stop complaining of loneliness. His talent is a curse, people!
By the way, it looks like Jessica Simpson is the guest judge for the finale.
Here’s the full scoop as of Thursday afternoon from BPR:
BPR’s Post-Finale Report:
All 10 remaining designers showed this morning as predicted. Here was the order followed by some initial thoughts on the collections:
Michael Drummond - inspired by underwear? Hmmm.
Valerie Mayen – Rainbow Brite meets David Bowie! Fun looks and one of the crowd favorites.
Christopher Collins - went for elegance but fell a little flat.
Carlos Casanova - gold sparkly glitter glue on the models distracted from the designs.
Ivy Higa – inspired by one of her favorite beaches and the yellow tang fish in the tide pools. A beautiful beachwear collection.
Michael Costello - inspired by one of his dear friends. There were a couple of outstanding individual pieces in this collection but may have been trumped by the monochromatic rose taupe color of every look.
Gretchen Jones - looked a little melancholy and talked about the “journey” she went through on the show. Collections was called “Running Through Thunder”.
Mondo Guerra – inspired by what he loves and dedicated to his grandmother. Very strong collection.
April Johnston – inspired by “dusty dolls gone to a tea party and getting washed away”. There were short, loose buckles as a thread in the collection. We are concerned about her fabric choices.
Andy South – the theme was “bringing statues to life”. He had some cool starburst head pieces on his models. He was very teary-eyed at the end!

So that’s all from BPR right now. They are planning to post photos later.
Or you can go to these direct Tom & Lorenzo links:
Christopher Collins collection
Michael Costello collection (I’m surprised by how much I LOVE this — except for the boob exposure in that last one)
Mondo Guerra collection (And how much I hate this)
Verdict: There are pieces of Andy’s that I really love, but overall I have to pick Michael C. and Gretchen as my favorites. I’m shocked. I think I will be alone on the MC front, but so be it!

I have to say Gina – I am feeling less and less confident about my final 4 prediction as time passes. I still think Mondo had the strongest collection of the day. I’m wondering if Michael C. might be one of the finalists, many people reacted very strongly to his collection.

I like MC’s designs. I hope he wins and shows up all of them snobby and rude substandard sewers

I have been pulling for Valerie, April, Michael and Mondo from the begining. I did not really care for Gretchen (at times, she comes across as a know it all with a big head). As for the collections, I like to love three collections: Andy’s, Michael C.’s and Mondo’s. I loved all their color choices and all four had some boob exposure. I loved Mondo’s crazy style and mixed matched items. I loved the simple style of Andy’s and Michael’s. Anyone could win….I would love to see a underdog win or someone with a crazy style….so best of luck to Michael, Mondo and Andy!!

I always liked Michael C’s personality, but I love his line! Mondo’s is cute, but it looks like it’s straight out of Forever 21. Very juvenile.

Mondo should be the winner! He’s been outstanding all season. Loved
Michael’s collection and was pleasantly surprised. April did a good job as
well…..it’s going to be difficult to chose a winner. Good Luck to all of them!

I think this season has been the most lopisided of them all. While Mondo does skew to a younger look – his design and technical skills are clearly a step above the rest of the designers. I think there has been outstanding single pieces from all of the designers Mondo is clearly the most talented of the group. Michael C and Gretchen are both rather boring and “one note” designers. Christopher has made some lovely ready to wear that could be sold in a Macy’s as is. And I think Andy and April a very talented they just need to mature and grow. To Mondo is head and shoulders above the rest.

Gretchen’s collection is surprisingly ugly – colors, styling…I expected better more from her. What a disappointment. I was most impressed by Andy’s collection even though I haven’t liked most of what he’s created all season. Mondo deserves to win Project Runway – what a talent!

I LOVED Michael C’s collection !!!! This just shows you that talent is talent !! He deserves to win. I couldn’t stand how cruel some of the contestants were to him.

Could we vote for “None of the above”? Because none of these designers had the talent or maturity to make a fashion business work.
Gretchen has become too worried about making her clothes wearable. The time to worry about that is after you make the WOW pieces.
Andy’s pleating is amazing but that’s not enough to make a body of work.
Mondo is so artsy-fartsy that it is sometimes painful to look at. He is lucky that his designs fit into the current fad of mixing patterns with patterns. But when that fad fades, where will that lead him?
Micheal C made clothes that would be tacky on the Las Vegas Strip. Does he really hate women so much that he has to make them look so bad? He should have been eliminated from the competition long before the Final Four.

Andy is great! he does have the makings of an awesome designer, he showed he could do more than “warrior” clothes and believe the in store clothes would be very wearable…i like him and Mike C
